Chelsea traveled to Afghanistan teaching ice skating in Bamiyan, Afghanistan to young women and has since then been interested in helping more young Afghans prosper

Based in British Columbia, Canada, Chelsea seeks to support and advocate for systemic change in her local community and around the world. Chelsea joined Camp Afghanistan as a mentor in 2024 and is excited to support Afghan youth as they pursue educational opportunities. She loves international knowledge sharing and is passionate about seeking change through cultural exchange and learning from one another.

After being inspired by the ongoing development work she saw in Afghanistan and around the world, Chelsea graduated from the University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) in 2018 with her Bachelor of Arts degree in Global Development Studies. Given her love of learning, she knew she wasn’t done studying and wanted to investigate further why Afghan women were so passionate about participation in sports despite the obvious challenges. In 2022, she graduated from the Institute for Development Studies at the University of Sussex with her Master’s degree in Development Studies, where her thesis research focused on the role of sport in women’s empowerment in Afghanistan. She has also worked as a consultant at the UN Office on Drugs and Crime in Laos focusing on alternative development.

Her diverse international experiences have brought her to Uganda, Australia, Turkey, and Afghanistan, among other countries. In 2020, she fulfilled a dream when she taught ice skating in Bamiyan, Afghanistan to young women.

Presently, Chelsea works as the lead researcher at the Community Health and Social Innovation. Chelsea loves the opportunities that CHASI gives her to work alongside such talented students and colleagues and participate in meaningful community-based research. Additionally, Chelsea teaches sessional courses in the Global Development Studies department at UFV, where she gets to share her love of learning and discussing the world with students.
Chelsea loves spending time with her friends and family, enjoying Canada’s natural beauty, listening to Taylor Swift, and playing with her dog Birthday Cake.
